Inauguration of the Olympic Aquatic Center in Saint-Denis
For Séché Environnement it’s also one of the most incredible challenges ever taken on by its specialist remediation site teams. For on this site, where three huge gasometers once stood, the soils contaminated by hydrocarbons, solvents and even metals, had preserved the memory of nearly 150 years of gas activities.
Before construction could begin, it took nearly 14 months of titanic site work to excavate nearly 182,000m3 of soil and evacuate 43,000m3 of polluted soil. Colossal figures that have not prevented us from maintaining high environmental ambitions:
- 80% of excavated soil is reused as backfill on site or on other construction sites, in line with the Circular Economy approach
- Disposal by river of half of polluted soil to limit road flows
- Confinement of operations under huge ventilated tents to avoid any air pollution
The decontamination site was completed 15 days ahead of schedule! We were part of a great achievement, and we hope our champions will win a few medals in the process… A great collective adventure alongside our partners Antea and Charier in the service of the Métropole du Grand Paris.
