Trédi has been awarded ISO 50001 energy performance certification

Tredi, a subsidiary of the Séché Environnement group specialising in the treatment and recovery of hazardous waste, has obtained ISO 50001 energy performance certification for its plants. This news confirms the Group’s ambition to make its industrial sites benchmarks in terms of energy performance and environmental excellence.

As part of a process of continuous improvement of its energy performance, in June 2020 Trédi issued an energy policy in which it committed to enhance the energy potential of all waste handled and to optimise management of energy use at its facilities according to standard ISO 50001.

This progress approach is built around two main objectives:

  • Better knowledge of the company’s industrial energy consumption and production,
  • Optimised management of energy indicators incorporated into the operation of facilities.

A certification included in the Group’s Climate strategy

This certification of Trédi’s hazardous and non-hazardous waste sortingreconditioning, treatment and energy recovery activities follows the audits that took place in September 2021 on the four French sites now included in this Group approach. It is part of Séché Environnement’s climate strategy, which aims for a 25% reduction in its emissions by 2030 and aims to reduce its customers’ carbon footprint through a 40% increase in avoided emissions by 2025.

Fossil fuel consumption (required in particular for operation of the energy recovery units) is among the Significant Energy Uses monitored and optimised via the Energy Management System, as well as the production of energy intended for self-consumption or to help Trédi customers reduce their own CO2 emissions.

For example, the plant in Trédi Salaise (Isère) supplies 600,000 tonnes of steam a year to manufacturing companies at the Roussillon chemical platform, i.e. half of their energy needs. This energy is used to limit the use of fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions: 180,000

This common energy-saving approach is also welcome in the current context of high energy prices.

For more than 40 years, Trédi – a 100% subsidiary of the Séché Environnement group – made its expertise in the treatment and recovery of hazardous waste available to its industrial customers and local authorities. It has seven sites, including four in France, in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin)Hombourg (Haut-Rhin)Saint Vulbas (Ain) and Salaise-sur-Sanne (Isère)
