Séché Environnement launches a new solid recovered fuel (SRF) production line
A new recovery method for waste with energy potential, RDF is produced from dry household or commercial waste that cannot be recycled to date. They are thus composed of fractions of plastic or paper waste, pieces of wood or furniture foam that cannot be recycled.
The selected waste is sorted, de-ironed and shredded, followed by a refining phase to obtain a homogeneous fuel with a high, stable calorific potential.
This fuel is intended for use as a substitute for other fuels
This fuel is intended as a substitute for fossil fuels, to produce heat or steam. Its use thus contributes to multiple objectives: reducing residual waste, developing local energy production loops, and combating climate change by limiting the use of fossil fuels.
It’s already a producer of renewable energy sources
Already a producer of CSR at its Changé (Mayenne) site to supply its own boiler (which notably serves the City of Laval’s heating network), Séché Environnement has developed a new production unit at its DRIMM site.
Located in Tarn-et-Garonne in the communes of Montech / Escatalens (near Montauban), DRIMM uses the sorting refuse from its various recovery centers to produce CSR. It supplies industrial companies, currently mainly cement plants in the Occitanie region, with an alternative energy source to fossil fuels, with a calorific value of 16 to 18 MJ/kg1. Its use in place of coal enables them to reduce their carbon emissions by around 50%.
1 The PCI of one tonne of CSR represents 500 m3 of natural gas or 600 kg of coal.
With a production of around 25,000 tons of SRF per year, DRIMM is one of the largest SRF production sites in the region.
“CSR production is part of our strategy to deploy ever more efficient industrial solutions in terms of waste recovery. With this production unit, we offer companies an alternative energy to fossil fuels, and support them in their energy transition initiatives, in an energy and climate context that reminds us every day of the acuteness of these subjects “commented Jérôme Tardivel, DRIMM’s Industrial Operations Director.

The development of a CSR production line at DRIMM is in line with the objectives defined by the Occitanie Region in its Regional Waste Management Plan. Accordingly, the Region is supporting this project to the tune of €300,000 under the “intervention device Aid for the realization of local projects for the prevention, management, recovery of waste and development of the circular economy” (deliberation of April 16, 2021). In parallel, the French government, through Ademe, is also partnering the project to the tune of €600,000.
The DRIMM CSR chain in figures
- Investment: nearly €4 million
- Public support:o 300 K€ from the Occitanie Regiono 600 K€ from Ademe
- Annual production: 25 Kt /year
- Average reduction in carbon emissions compared with coal: 50%
About Séché Environnement
Séché Environnement is a benchmark player in waste management, including the most complex and hazardous waste, and in environmental services, particularly in the event of environmental emergencies.
Thanks to its expertise in creating circular economy loops, decarbonization and hazard control, the group has been contributing for nearly 40 years to the ecological transition of industries and territories, as well as to the protection of living organisms. A family-owned French industrial group, Séché Environnement deploys the cutting-edge technologies developed by its R&D at the heart of the territories, in more than 120 sites in 15 countries, including some 50 industrial sites in France. With nearly 5,000 employees, including 2,300 in France, Séché Environnement generated sales of €736 million in 2021, 28% of which were generated internationally.
Séché is present in Tarn et Garonne through its subsidiary DRIMM, a division dedicated to the recovery and treatment of non-hazardous waste. DRIMM brings together two sorting centers for packaging on the one hand, and furniture and waste from economic activities on the other, now complemented by a Solid Recovered Fuel production unit. The site also processes non-recyclable waste by landfill, and recovers biogas from waste processing in the form of electricity.
Séché is also Sirtomad’s delegate for the operation and modernization of MoVE, a thermal waste treatment site located in Montauban. Séché is carrying out a major program of works to transform the existing site into an energy recovery unit that will supply the district heating network. In all, Séché has around 120 employees in Tarn et Garonne.
