Mo'UVE achieves ISO 50001 certification dedicated to energy performance

Five months since the integration of Mo'UVE into the Séché Environnement group. Just five months to deploy an ISO 50001 management system focused on energy challenges at this waste treatment site near Montauban. Made possible by the unfailing commitment of the teams, this collective success is part of an ambitious program to make the Sirtomad (public sector waste treatment joint venture) plant a high-performance energy recovery tool.

On 1 January 2021, Séché Environnement took over the operation of Mo’UVE, the household waste treatment plant of Sirtomad, the Greater Montauban Urban Community and Terres des Confluences region municipal waste treatment syndicate (Tarn-et-Garonne department/120,000 inhabitants) under a Public Service Delegation. On 1 June, Mo’UVE officially obtained its ISO 50001 certification.

A first step

The first step in the dynamic led by Séché and the teams at this plant, the commitment to the ISO 50001 certification process aims to identify levers for action to better control energy consumption. After reviewing the site’s energy uses, the teams defined an action plan aimed at streamlining and optimizing consumption, in order to fit into a virtuous approach that helps preserve resources

Obtaining this certification in five months was a challenge, and it is a collective success of which we can all be very proud. It was made possible thanks to the involvement of all the employees of Mo’UVE and the Séché teams. We are all aware of the current issues linked to the preservation of resources and the fight against climate change, and we are taking action and will continue to do so to successfully drive forward our approach and achieve our goal of making the region’s waste an alternative energy resource to fossil fuels.

Electricity for 15,000 inhabitants and heat for 18,000

The energy issue will indeed be a determining factor in the choice of process developments, since Mo’UVE will be deploying a major works program over the coming months to turn the existing facility into a real energy production tool, geared towards the circular economy and serving the region. The future equipment will triple the production of heat and produce electricity, including 15 GWh that will be injected into the public network each year, representing the domestic consumption of around 15,000 inhabitants. Mo’UVE will also cover the energy needs of the urban heating network, which is currently being extended, so as to ultimately provide heat to the equivalent of 18,000 inhabitants.

Through this certification, issued by AFNOR, Séché Environnement confirms its desire to make the Montauban plant a benchmark industrial site in terms of energy performance and environmental excellence.
