Moving toward low-carbon industries

The Trédi facility in Salaise-sur-Sanne is one of the largest hazardous waste incineration and recovery units in France.

Since 1985, our team of 200 people have been treating hazardous and non-hazardous industrial waste as well as potentially infectious medical waste (PIMW) and household waste from towns in the surrounding area. We handle all types of waste – solid, liquid or sludge, conditioned or in bulk, containing chlorine or sulfur, as well as reactive, toxic or malodorous waste.

Our multi-channel center provides integrated solutions, boasting three incineration units with an authorized annual capacity of 294,000 tons. Our heat network enables us to recover the energy generated from the waste treatment process in the form of steam, which we channel into a platform serving 16 local manufacturing businesses. Large-scale work carried out in 2020 tripled the amount of steam we are able to recover, providing our partners with up to 600,000 tons of low-carbon energy each year.

In order to support manufacturers and businesses with the end-to-end management of their hazardous waste, we also operate a sorting and assembly platform.

We strive to develop high value-added solutions that set the benchmark regarding the energy and environmental transition, offering guarantees that complex waste will be handled safely. As such, we help protect the environment.

Low-carbon energy for the chemical industry

This new facility, financially supported by the French environment agency ADEME, supplies 600,000 tons of steam for manufacturers using the Roussillon chemical platform, covering half of their demand for energy.

Local management: our sorting and assembly platform

Here, we manage 6,000 tons of small quantities of hazardous waste each year. Our qualified chemists identify and sort the waste before sending it to the appropriate treatment and recovery channels.

Positioning environmental protection as an integral part of what we do

It falls within our corporate social responsibility to continuously track the impact of our operations on the environment. We monitor the performance of our facilities and equipment 24/7, while also ensuring our emissions remain within acceptable levels. We bolster these rigorous checks by inviting accredited bodies to conduct analysis, and add redundancy to our measurement instruments, which are regulated by a strict, regulated methodology. Moreover, we monitor surrounding ecosystems.

Taking action to preserve biodiversity

Since 2014, we have actively been taking steps to preserve biodiversity, underpinned in particular by the Séché Group’s involvement with Act4Nature since 2018 and its signature of Act4Nature International in 2020. We implement sustainable gardening practices for green spaces as well as a zero pesticide program. Furthermore, we develop spaces that provide favorable habitats for local plants that attract bees and support birds. We measure our impact on green spaces with support from an independent naturalist, who also works with us on site to raise awareness among stakeholders.

Fostering synergies with local businesses

We strive to develop long-standing partnerships with key regional bodies in pursuit of structural synergies and short supply chains. Our efforts to optimize flows with the Roussillon chemical platform over the past 30 years or more, and more recently the steps taken with the businesses in the industrial park form an integral part of this policy.

Developing lasting relationships with businesses, public bodies and institutions

Deeply rooted within the regions in which we operate, we endeavor to develop strong partnerships with local non-profits and academic institutions. Wherever possible, we favor the use of short supply chains (60% of our investments are made by local businesses) and also play an active role in business networks and partnerships. Moreover, we are proud to participate in regional development projects, such as the French regional climate, air and energy plan (PCAET) and the inter-establishment travel plan (PDIE).

Helping disabled people get into and stay in work

We systematically communicate our job offers to specialist recruitment agencies (Cap Emploi), and we inform and support our employees in preparing their paperwork to get their disability recognized. Furthermore, we suggest adaptations to their workstations after conducting an ergonomic assessment and taking account of the occupational health physician. In addition, we get involved each year in the Week for the Employment of People with Disabilities by organizing events to give people an insight into what we do.

Upskilling the workforce

We have expanded the number of work-study placements we offer so as to ensure the next generation develops the skills we need, especially in professions where good candidates are hard to find. In 2021/2022, we finalized 11 work-study contracts, and another is currently being recruited. Furthermore, we brought on six interns in 2022.
