DRIMM Montech / Escatalens
Staying one step ahead of the curve to preserve resources
We put in place solutions to recover an increasing proportion of waste and generate ever-more green energy, thereby helping to preserve resources.
As such, our team has operated a sorting center for household packaging waste going over and above recommendations since 2012, along with a high-performance sorting center for bulk waste (including furniture and industrial waste), enabling us to recycle 55,000 tons of material each year. Furthermore, we exploit non-recyclable waste to produce Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF), a new source of energy that industry can harness to help bring about its own energy transition.
In addition, we safely treat residual waste at our non-hazardous waste storage facility to avoid causing harm to the environment. We also harness the biogas naturally produced by storing this waste to generate electricity, which we reinject into the public grid. This energy covers the equivalent electricity use of 30,000 people.
Reflecting our concern for protecting biodiversity, we earned Ecocert certification, substantiating all our efforts in this area, and have long pioneered the issue in the Occitania region.

Developing tools to recover an ever-greater proportion of waste
Having been focused on circular economy solutions for many years now, we have structured our growth strategy around deploying technical solutions that serve to recover an ever-greater proportion of waste. Since 2009, we have been harnessing the biogas naturally produced by household waste to generate electricity. In 2012, our packaging sorting center became the first in south-west France to sort more types of waste than recommended. The inauguration of our high-performance sorting center in 2014 enabled us to start sorting recoverable materials contained in furniture and industrial waste. Moreover in 2021, we further stepped up our recovery efforts by producing Solid Recovered Fuel, transforming non-recyclable waste into energy.

Maintaining our long-term commitment to preserving biodiversity
Following on from efforts initiated in the 1990s, which earned ECOCERT certification in 2015, we implement action to effectively carry out our industrial activities while also preserving local biodiversity. With help from our two ecologists, we set up programs to preserve established habitats supporting a wealth of biodiversity, and identify developments to create a green belt and a blue belt around and within the site. For example, we installed insect hotels to restore balance in the food chain, pursued widescale planting programs, and created wetland areas. At the same time, we take part in national audit programs in collaboration with the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, and in partnership with local non-profits (LPO, Société des Sciences Naturelles de Tarn-et-Garonne, etc.) to ensure our efforts are effective.

Teaching people about protecting the environment
In order to reach as many people as possible and inform them about the value and consequences of waste management, we open our site to public visits. We have developed educational activities for school children visiting our facility, run by the schools and sorting champions designed to show the children just what happens to waste when it is thrown away. Adult visitors are offered an insight into all our activities so they may better understand the technical side of our profession, as well as our efforts to preserve the environment. We welcome nearly 2,000 visitors each year.
